Emanuel Earns Opening Day Nod

Lefty Kent Emanuel will make the Opening Day start for Corpus Christi on Thursday at Hammons Field in Springfield, MO. The Cardinals counter with right-hander Nick Petree.

Emanuel, 22, went 9-7 with a 4.21 ERA in 27 appearances (18 starts) between Lancaster and Quad Cities last season. He struck out 93 and walked 32 in 124.0 innings pitched. As a junior at North Carolina, Emanuel was named 2013 ACC Pitcher of the Year and a Louisville Slugger First-Team All-American. The southpaw from Woodstock, GA, posted a 10-3 record and 2.11 ERA in 15 games (14 starts) for the Tar Heels that season, and was later taken by the Astros in the third round of the draft.

The Hooks will once again employ a modified-tandem starting system with a pitcher alternating solo assignments with outings when he’s teamed with another starter. Below is a rundown of Corpus Christi’s probables for the opening road trip.
